Here’s the Truth: People with High Credit Scores Aren’t More Hardworking or Lucky...
They Just Know Something You Don’t
(But That’s About to Change!)
When you look at this photo, do you see a happy man?
Look again, look closer. Pay attention to his expression, to his eyes. The sparkle is gone, replaced by a deep exhaustion and an invisible sadness.
Have you ever felt like that? Like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, trying to be strong when, inside, all you feel is despair? That’s how I see this man…
… A mix of strength and extreme exhaustion, hope and fear, and a whole lot of faith and embarrassment…
He was tired. Not just tired—completely drained. From fighting every day and still not seeing results. Not seeing a way out.
This man is José, a good friend of mine. He’s 36 years old, married, and a father. He left everything behind in his home country, sold his business, abandoned his career, and started from scratch in the United States.
I met him on a regular day, when I ordered a rideshare. Today, he works as a driver, 16 hours a day, with only two days off a month. Two days a month to try to balance the bills, just to catch his breath.
Have you ever felt like no matter how hard you try, you’re always one step behind? So has he.
He shared with me the struggles he’s facing. Struggles only those who’ve been through it can truly understand: working in cleaning, delivering food, dealing with stress, poor diet, and still carrying the heavy burden of being treated with prejudice and disrespect. But he keeps going, because there are bills to pay, and he has a family to support.
But there was something more. A deeper exhaustion. He was worried. As he spoke, his tone shifted. His voice started to break, and his gaze became distant…
The physical exhaustion, the constant worry about making it to the end of the month, the feeling that no matter how hard you work, the money is never enough... He was living that exact reality.
So, when we reached my destination, we exchanged phone numbers. I figured I’d call him when I needed private rides, and we also talked about grabbing coffee one day.
A few days later, I couldn’t stop thinking about his story, and I finally set up that coffee meeting.
When we met at the café, I told him I noticed he seemed to be going through some struggles. I got straight to the point and asked how I could help. Just as I suspected, he was drowning in debt.
He told me he was paying $3,500 in rent, $1,200 for his car payment, $1,500 on gas, $800 in tolls, and his credit card debt had ballooned to $40,000, with 97% of his credit limit maxed out. To make things worse, his earnings from driving had dropped drastically, and his wife wasn’t working.
He was stuck in a corner. His credit card bills started falling behind. He was only able to make the minimum payments, and his already small income took another hit with fewer ride requests due to school vacations and issues with the app.
It’s easy to relate to his story, isn’t it? Those days when it feels like the expenses just keep piling up, but your income can never catch up.
He was driving all day, waiting for more rides, burning more gas than he could afford. The situation was getting desperate, and as you can imagine, the problems kept piling up.
Still, he pushed forward, trying out new alternatives. He did what many would do: he switched cars to try and boost his earnings on the app. At first, it worked well. He was making more money, and for a brief moment, he thought he’d finally found the solution to his problems.
But 15 days later, everything fell apart. The bank canceled his car loan, and he had to return the vehicle. A series of 50 credit inquiries ended up destroying his credit score, which closed even more doors for him. The feeling of frustration and exhaustion grew stronger every day.
He watched his credit plummet, and with it, he saw doors closing, one after another.
Imagine the weight of being in that situation. The work isn’t paying off, the bills keep piling up, and you start watching the credit card interest skyrocket. He found himself in a dead-end. And the stress was taking a toll on his health:
He gained 20 pounds;
He hadn’t taken a vacation in 10 years;
He couldn’t spend time with his family;
Everything he ate made him sick, and he constantly suffered from bloating;
He worked so much that he couldn’t even go to the bathroom in peace.
It was a cycle that seemed endless.
And how many times in life do we find ourselves trapped in these same cycles?
On top of it all, he had lost hope. After all, what do you do when it feels like the world is falling apart around you, even though you’re giving it your all?
This is the vicious cycle many immigrants and Americans live in. A spiral of debt, health issues, and despair. But all of it often comes from choices made with the best of intentions, trying to ensure a better life for the family, putting the well-being of those we love first.
Like so many, he believed he was doing everything right. But things spiraled out of control. And maybe you’ve felt that way too.
After hours of deep conversation, I realized something important: these cycles weren’t just coincidences. They were patterns that kept repeating in his life, and maybe in yours too.
Cycles that pulled him back to the same place.
How much do inherited and behavioral patterns influence your present and future?
The answer: 100%.
You need to learn how to identify these patterns, and more importantly, how to break them.
Just like José, many of us reach the point of exhaustion. But what makes all the difference is knowing that there is a way out. A path to financial freedom, to having time for family, to living a balanced life.
I wanted to help. And I knew the solution wasn’t just in offering him money, but something deeper: financial education. I gave him a step-by-step plan to get out of this situation, to finally break the cycle of struggles that had been holding him back for so long.
Three months later, I got a message. He was at peace, relieved, and with his credit restored. His score had climbed to 730, and his financial life was finally in order. Now, he had time for his family, his health was improving, and he felt in control of his life again.
Now, look at this photo. What do you see?
His eyes still carry the marks of the battle, but now there’s something different: pride and relief. A new blend of happiness and peace. His family is thriving, he has quality time with them, and the cycle has finally been broken.
This is the same transformation that can happen in your life.
So now, I ask you: What do your eyes reflect today? And how will they look six months from now?
Breaking cycles changes destinies. Sometimes, you need to lose your old path to find the right one. You have the power to rewrite your story.
